Of Constitutions and InstitutionsBy Malcolm King, First P.C., La Follette, TN and founding member of the Constitutional PresbyteriansEvery creed, every catechism, and every confession found in The Book of Confessions, and every paragraph of the Book of Order, is meant to have its foundation in the words of Scripture. If the word of God in the Scriptures is not the ultimate foundation for these words of human construction, then that creed, that catechism, that confession, that standard, or that Book of Order, must fall. No standard for faithful living that is lifted up by our denominational polity can stand simply because we want it to, or because social witness or cultural change demands that it be institutionalized in our life together.

Unforgettable LessonsBy The Presbyterian ForumNo matter how committed and competent the voters, if you don't have a majority, you can't win an election. Political change is easiest to accomplish from the bottom up, while it is often impossible to accomplish from the top down. Reform must come from the bottom up.

No One to Blame but OurselvesBy The Presbyterian ForumThe Presbyterian Forum has urged you to join us in Operation Fair Representation -- to do what you can to make sure that the commissioners to General Assembly elected from your Presbytery genuinely represent the thinking of your Presbytery. The Presbyterian Forum stands ready to help you. But if you don't do it, it won't get done. And, in seven months from now the Presbyterian Church has changed its primary commitments to the authority of the plain meaning of Scripture, there will be no one to blame but ourselves.

Thoughts on the 216th General AssemblyBy Rev. Michael Herrin. . . every presbytery should make sure that those commissioners they send to the next General Assembly are going to vote for the sorts of ordination standards that their presbyteries can endorse. If there was ever a time for presbyteries to ask people about their views on important issues before electing them as commissioners, this is it. If there was ever a time for presbyteries to amend or set aside their standing rules and pick their best and their brightest and their most experienced people to represent them, this is it.

What's Being Done In Our Name?By Bill Crawford, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church of Thibodaux, LA. . .only when we get angry enough about our identity being stolen will anything be done. Only then will we have enough desire to ferret out the problem to correct it. Until we take ownership of our problem then we really have no right to point fingers and complain. Only then will we see renewal at the national level.
